NaNoWriMo

Hey all!

I've decided to take part in NaNoWriMo (NaNoWriMo) this year! You may not know this, or maybe you do, but I like writing. Even if I happen to be terrible at it. I'll be chronicling my NaNoWriMo journey. Take a look if you wish, and if you're a fellow participant, ganbatte!

Note: For NaNoWriMo 2012 and 2013, all posts were written (and will redirect) to my other blog about life in Japan

  1. Hi Eusacia -

It looks like you're having a great NaNo in terms of word count. I'd love to hear an update on how it's going for you, and what you think of your story (and where it's going).

    Best,
    Intisar

    1. Hey Intisar!

Thanks for asking(: Well, I'm really happy about how my story has been going, because I never expected my characters to behave in certain ways. (My two silly protagonists got out of an unhealthy relationship and my antagonist glimpsed the light).

But I keep thinking half my words are filler and there's actually very later plot :p But I'm shutting this voice down and just writing for now.

I hope your NaNo is going well, and that you caught up on your projects!

    2. Thanks, Eustacia! My NaNo is (was?) very slow, but I expected that. I'd planned a lower goal than the 50k because, really, a four month old baby and a toddler (with potty training in progress) kinda makes it hard to have energy for writing at the end of the day. Much as you mentioned in another post, I looked at this NaNo as a way to get back into my writing practice. I'm still struggling, but doing much better, so definitely a success :) I ended up spending all my time on the first project...it got a lot more complex.

Yes, there's a lot of filler that happens in NaNo. You know, I read one author who said that for his average 90k novel first draft, he always managed to cut out 10k in revisions. Given that he wasn't writing in NaNo, and it was a more thoughtful, slow process, I think I could easily say that for most of my NaNos that I completed, I could have cut 10k out of the 50k. But you never know which 10k or what part of the description / plot has to go (or stay) until you've written it. NaNo is awesome for writing the unexpected. (Just look at your antagonist!)

      Many, many congrats on winning!

    3. Thank you!

It's great that your NaNo was a success! I think the whole point of NaNo is to encourage people to write, and it definitely succeeded with you ^^

I look forward to your next book~
